BRIDGE WORKSHOP: CITIZENS AT THE CENTER – INTEGRATION OF ENERGY COMMUNITIES INTO THE MARKET

What: COMPILE pilot site was presented at the BRIDGE workshop

Where: Online

When: 17th January 2022

On January 17, 2022, the BRIDGE working group (WG) on Consumer and Citizen Engagement (CCE), chaired by Mr. Stanislas d’Herbemont from COMPILE partner REScoop.eu, organised a workshop titled “Citizens at the centre: Integration of energy communities into the market”.

The goal of the workshop was to elaborate on the topic of market integration of energy communities. Using the CCE WG Questionnaire and the responses from BRIDGE projects to the questions on market integration of energy communities, in particular, the workshop touched the subjects that required more discussion. It also covered the discussion of the Digitalization Strategy currently being drafted by the European Commission (EC) and the role that energy communities can plan to empower citizens while enhancing consumer protections.

Part of the event was dedicated to presentations of pilot sites from three different projects and their experiences with involving energy communities with the question of how to integrate them into the market. Ms. Ana Rita Antunes from COMPILE partner Coopernico spoke about the pilot site Lisbon, while Mr. Rob Goudriaan represented the RENAISSANCE project and Ms. Giulia Rinaldi CREATORS.

The outcome of the workshop will be a written description of discussion outcomes and takeaways that can be communicated in the Final Report of BRIDGE to be delivered to the EC. Furthermore, the outcomes will serve as BRIDGE’s contribution towards the EC’s consultation on the digitalization of the energy sector agenda.
