WORKSHOP “ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS: KEY PLAYERS FOR THE EUROPEN ENERGY TRANSITION”

Together with five other innovative projects (FLEXnCONFU, IElectrix, MERLON, MUSE GRIDS and ROBINSON) COMPILE organised a workshop within the extended programme of the EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW). It aimed at demonstrating how Energy Storage Systems are key components to reshape European Energy Systems in the next decade and to reach the EU sustainable targets.

During the session, different perspectives of each speaker and the audience were gathered and the discussion went around the development of the policy and best practices that would boost and accelerate the use of Energy Storage Systems.

COMPILE was represented by Assoc. Prof. Andrej Gubina from the project coordinator Laboratory of Energy Policy (LEST), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana. He explained how the project and especially one of its main pilot sites Luče (Slovenia) have been benefiting from the COMPILE tools. The key outcomes of the Luče pilot site are more efficient management and operation of the low-voltage network, improvement of network reliability and thus increase of self-sufficiency. To conclude, he pointed out the main current legislative constraints in Slovenia, the new proposed law on RES, challenges and opportunities for the future.
